Title: Director of Finance Location: Mississauga, ON. Head Office Type: Full Time (Permanent)Position Summary:
The Director of Finance will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations, planning, and strategy for a group of companies within the renewable energy, logistics, and transportation sectors. This role requires ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing cash flow, optimizing profitability, developing financial forecasts, and managing the day-to-day operations and execution. The Director will collaborate closely with the executive team to support strategic financial decision-making and drive sustainable growth.
Primary Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Strategy
- Develop and implement the company’s financial strategic plans and goals, aligning with long-term business objectives.
- Provide financial modeling to support various growth scenarios for renewable energy, logistics, and transportation operations.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
Cash Flow Management
- Establish and implement policies for effective cash flow management.
- Monitor financial performance across the company and ensure sufficient liquidity for ongoing, capital-intensive solar projects and construction.
Cost Management, Profitability Analysis, Financial Reporting, and Compliance
- Lead cost control efforts and identify opportunities for cost-saving across all divisions.
- Perform profitability analyses for individual projects and recommend actionable improvements.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for financial performance as well as provide actionable insights to the executive team.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and maintain compliance with Canadian tax laws and provincial regulations (Ontario and Alberta).
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for senior leadership.
Risk Management and Financial Controls
- Identify and manage financial risks, including those related to renewable energy project costs, logistics, and supply chain disruptions.
- Develop and implement internal financial controls, ensuring robust documentation and audit processes across the company.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist in securing external financing for renewable energy projects and business expansions, including loans, grants, and investor funding.
- Oversee payroll operations, ensuring compliance with Canadian payroll taxes, WSIB contributions, and employee benefits.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure salary scales and benefits packages are financially sustainable.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a management or director-level position.
- At least 5 years of experience in financial planning.
- 3 years of experience in capital-intensive industries such as renewable energy, construction, or logistics.
- Demonstrated expertise in cash flow management, profitability analysis, and financial forecasting.
Education and Certifications:
- MBA or a relevant master’s degree in finance or accounting.
- CPA designation is required.
Skills and Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of financial management and capital-intensive industries.
- Expertise in the financial policies and practices of construction and logistics industries.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and driving organizational change.
- Proficiency in budget modeling, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Advanced computer skills, particularly with Office 365 and financial software.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior leadership.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team-oriented and consultative environment.
- High level of discretion, problem-solving abilities, and sound judgment, especially when handling confidential information.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business insights.
