Title: Solar Electrical Engineer-Solar Designer Location: Alberta and Ontario Type: Full Time (Permanent)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Electrical Engineer – Solar Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the design and development of utility scale solar farm projects. This position involves detailed electrical design, project planning, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of solar projects.

Position Requirements:

Primary Responsibilities

Responsible for being the subject matter expert and main point of contact for all electrical engineering projects and technical reports including supporting business development team in the interpretation of technical requires on RFPs

Supporting proposal (scope and pricing) and actively work with the project management team on all projects in bidding process.

Develop and design technical specifications, QC documents, technical manuals, and related department materials.

Responsible for record keeping of all designs, notes, calculations, simulations, etc. with a focus and dedication to security, confidentiality and best practices.

Design all DC/AC systems and LV & MV systems.

Responsible for reviewing and designing electrical designs and associated utility interconnection requirements to ensure specific requirements are met and aligned with geographical area and region (Canada and USA)

Experience with preparing and executing utility interconnection plans.

Perform and review power system studies through computer software and relevant methods

Provide guidance and training in electrical commissioning, safety, best practices

Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work effectively with senior management team, clients, project management team and contractors.

Participate in field and analytical work in the full spectrum of electrical power systems along relevant field experts


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (M. Eng preferred)

5+ years’ experience directly working on solar energy projects

Knowledge of Canadian and US Codes and standards (IEC, NEC, CE Code, etc.)

Experience with electrical system design and construction including distribution, substation, and electric generation systems, as well as electrical system studies and modeling

Strong writing and communication skills for report writing and communication of technical concepts to internal and external clients

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

Experience with PVCase, PVSyst, AutoCad, Bluebeam

Knowledge of National Electric Code and other model codes (Canada)

Knowledge of industry best practices and technical standards

Knowledge of health and safety best practices

Ability to work effectively in team environment

Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to work effectively and professionally with diverse people, clients and co-workers.

Flexibility and adaptability issues and tasks may change quickly
